GOG is running a new giveaway, this time featuring Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War – a classic turn-based strategy game from the late ’90s set in the dark universe of Warhammer 40K. The game is now free to claim until 29 May 2025, 18:59 EEST, and once added, it stays in your library permanently.
Rites of War originally launched in 1999 and was developed by DreamForge, the same team behind Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate. This game puts players in control of the Eldar, a mysterious and ancient race, during their campaign against both the Imperium and the Tyranids. The gameplay uses the classic SSI Panzer General engine, which gives it a familiar hex-based tactical layer that longtime strategy fans should appreciate. There’s a 20-mission campaign, a skirmish mode, and support for hot-seat multiplayer.
The version GOG is offering comes DRM-free and is part of the “Good Old Games Preservation Program”. It’s optimized for modern machines, and includes bonus content like the original manual and wallpaper.
