Warhammer 40K Kill Team: New Quarterly Update ‘Adjusts’ Adeptus Astartes

July 23, 2025

Games Workshop has “adjusted” the overperforming Adeptus Astartes in Kill Team with the new quarterly update.

That’s probably the politest way of saying “hit them with the nerf bat.” That’s right, folks. GW brought the hammer down on those pesky power-armored wearing Astartes. The silver lining is that changes happened to both loyalist and heretical Astartes. At least chaos is catching a stray, too.

Here’s what GW had to say about the changes.

“We’re happy with the way the meta is in the system overall, which means we can focus on toning down overperforming teams. The most notable adjustments are to Adeptus Astartes teams, which all see some level of adjustment. Loyalist and heretic Space Marines alike have had a profound impact on the game so far, as powerful teams which are often well represented at events. These adjustments should provide other kill teams with more counterplay, and bring them more into line with the field.”

Kill Team Updates

As you can see from the screenshot above there’s quite a few updates that have been rolled out for Kill Team. If you’re playing any of the above Kill Teams you’re going to want to download and read-up on those changes. There’s also a handy Core Rules: Update Log which you’re probably going to want to check on regardless of what Kill Team you’re playing.

Having said that, GW did compile a list of the five biggest changes for folks. Here’s that list in screenshot form, too:

One final call out is the how retaining dice has been updated. This is in relation to how rules like Punishing and Rending will function in regards to other rules like Accurate and Severe. Effectively, this change keeps them from stacking these bonuses. That also has the downstream impact of “adjusting” Kill Teams that might have been relying on those combos.

At least the Imperial Navy Breachers and the Hunter Clade actually got some buffs. This update was really starting to feel like a nerf gun party.

Mega Nerf, indeed…

Let us know what you think of this Quarterly update. Is it relief from oppressive Kill Teams or is GW taking away all your fun toys?

At least it was ALL Nerfs…
