Games Workshop has released a free Horus Heresy Legendary Mission – Can you survive the Dropsite Massacre?
The Dropsite Massacre is the iconic first battle of the Horus Heresy. Traitors turned their weapons on their battle brothers and opened fire for the first time. Marines battled Marines and it was a brutal and bloody shock to the Imperium. Now, GW has released a free mission that allows you to take the contents of the new Saturnine Boxed set and replay the mission where the Loyalist fought back. Can you rewrite history? Try it to find out!
“Legendary Mission – The First Wave lets you replay the moment that the Loyalist vanguard made contact with the Traitors, and attempted to violently force their way through the defences. It gives you a chance to attempt to rewrite history – and you can download it today, completely free.”

Dropsite Massacre – The First Wave
The mission itself is fairly straightforward. You can see the setup, and mission objectives above. The Attackers are the Loyalist forces while the Traitors are the Defenders. That said, this mission does have a few more special rules, too.
But even with these special rules victory is really going to come down to who’s got the most Victory Points by the end of Turn Four. It just so happens that one of the best ways to score points is to kill the enemy. It’s going to be a real slobberknocker at the end of the day!
Again, this mission can be played with just the contents of the Saturnine Boxed set. Then again, if you’ve got existing armies, I don’t see a reason you couldn’t give this one a go with other/additional forces, too. The mission uses (basically) the standard setup with some custom tweaks so it’s entirely feasible to use a point-level you and your opponent agree on. The table is a typical 6′ x 4′ so as long as your armies fit play around with it!
Can you survive the slaughter and rewrite history or are you doomed to repeat the same mistakes?
