Games Workshop Rumor Engine: ‘Grub Grub’

August 19, 2025

Games Workshop has a new Rumor Engine out today and it’s looking very grubby. But I can’t tell if it’s the front or the back end.

Welcome to another Tuesday and a brand new Rumor Engine from Games Workshop. Today’s image has grub life written all over it. But before we get into all the theories about it, you probably need to take a look.

“These Necron images are getting more and more obvious, from the segmented living metal of the abdomen to the strange runes etched onto the necrodermis. Yep, this is clearly a new type of Canoptek construct.”

So I think it’s safe to say this is most certainly NOT a Necron image. It’s organic and bug-like; it’s a grub tail. At least I’m pretty sure it’s the tail end. The way the chitin plates are lining up I’m going to say it’s a tail at this point. So what could it be? Well, Tyranids are on my guess list. They do have creatures with pincer tails after all. But this would be a new type of space bug and I honestly don’t think it’s one of those.

If we’re sticking in the 40k universe, I’d also want to toss out something from Necromunda. Specifically something from the Ash Wastes. We’ve seen the grubs and bugs hanging out with the Nomads.

But there’s also the mysterious Ambull which also had those weird grubs. I’ve been wondering if there was a connection between the Ash Waste Nomads and the Dreaded Ambull for a while.

That said, not of these are matching 100% with the Rumor Engine. So maybe we’re looking in the wrong place. Or maybe even in the wrong universe…

The Sylvaneth are well know to associate with bugs. And some of the other teasers this month have me thinking that there might be a connection there.

That said, there’s also other factions that could be candidates. Nurgle is another obvious option. But the truth is I’m not 100% sure about any of these. So that’s where you come in. If you’ve got a theory share it with us in the comments. I’m curious to know what you think about this Rumor Engine.

It’s the back end, right?
