Games Workshop showcases the new Battle Formations of the Helsmiths of Hashut. Plus more rules previews for them in Age of Sigmar!
The Helsmiths of Hashut are gearing up to deploy into the Mortal Realms with a fury. A Daemonic Power Point fury at that! Yesterday, WarCom dropped an article with some insights about the army and how it will work on the tabletop. It’s a good read if you’re looking for tips on them. It’s also a good read if you’re interested in what to look out for when you’re facing them. That said, we’re going to take a look specifically at the rules previews that were provided. So let’s get into it!
The Helsmiths of Hashut – Battle Formations
We know there are a total of four Battle Formations coming with their army book. They each lean into different aspects of their playstyle. Additionally, they each have bonuses for specific units when they get three Daemonic Power Points. This further enhances leaning into those preferred playstyles.
The Daemonsmith Cabal is the caster-focused Battle Formation. It has a flat +1 to all casting, unbinds, banishments, and chanting rolls for wizards of priest units that have three Daemonic Power Points. That seems good for spell-slinging to me!
If you saw the Helsmiths of Hashut’s warmachines and wanted to run lots of those then the Castigation Battery might be for you. This one comes with the Experimental Munitions rule. It’s a flat +1 to all ranged weapon attacks of their war machines while they have three DPP. Again, that could be pretty great if you really lean into the war machines in your list.
Now, if you really want to bring the beef, then you’re probably eyeing those Bull Centaur units. I know I was! That’s why the Bullfather’s Horns Battle Formation might be the one for me. It’s a +2″ to the Move of cavalry and monsters when they have 3 DPP. If those bulls are going to be faster, I don’t think that’s a bad thing for running down the enemy. That said, I was hoping it would be something that would give them more punch or survivability. Then again, there might be something for that in the heroic traits, artefacts of power, or spell lore…
There’s also one more unit teaser rule that was shown off explicitly. This one was for the character Urak Taar:
I don’t know which part of the rule I like more: The D3 Mortals or the extra 2D6 move. A repositioning for him could be pretty useful. But I do like bonus mortal wounds…
There were more rules teased in the article as well. But if you want to see those I suggest you read the article for context, too. I think the Helsmiths are going to have a strong start in the Mortal Realms as folks get used to fighting them. They get to play in all the phases of the game, they have a tough core of units, and they are threat at both range and up close. They could be a good all-around force on the tabletop and I’m looking forward to finding out.
The Helsmiths of Hashut are coming soon. Are you ready for them?
