
Let’s look at the Top Imperial Knight Stratagem – Detachment combos to pump up your giant robos on the 40K tabletop.
Goatboy here on this day to talk about Imperial Knights stratagems from the new codex. LEt’s put on our thinking cap and come up with new ways to utilize those CP hungry Knights on the tabletop with powerful abilities. Overall I think there are some amazing new rules in this book and while the loss of FNP is huge there are some neat things you can do. Let’s dig in to the best ones from each of the 4 available Detachments in the Imperial Knights codex.
Knightly Hip-shooting!
Detachment – Valourstrike Lance
Stratagem – Fulltilt – 2CP
Knight Dataslate – Shooty Knights
This ability is used in the movement phase and it lets you select up to 3 Imperial Knight models in the army that are have not been selected to move and are within 9″ of the same point on the battlefield. Those models gain +2″ to their move and Advance rolls for a total of +4″ when advancing with the model. This is the detachment that gives your Ranged weapons the Assault keyword for the army if they advance so giving 3 models 4 extra inches as well as letting them still shoot seems like an amazing combo.
Hit Them Where It HURTS!
Detachment – Gate Warden Lance
Stratagem – Drive Them Out! – 1CP
Knight Dataslate – Canis Rex
The Stratagem gives a single Imperial Knights unit that ability to get Critical Hits on a 5+ in both the shooting and fight phase. You get all of this for 1CP or 0CP if you are using Canis. This gives him his old explosive ability again and while it is pretty simple it is going to be very effective to use. We all know how insane Critical Hits on a 5+ can be and anything with a large amount of shots is going to love it. This also combos with the Detachments ability to gain Sustained Hits 1 on your ranged attacks when you straddle the defensive line.
It’s Only a Flesh Wound!
Detachment – Questoris Companions
Stratagem – Courageous Stand – 1CP
While the Knights army lost Feel No Pain they can get it back with utilizing a Stratagem. For one CP you can give an Imperial Knight unit a 6+ FNP in either the opponents shooting phase or the Fight phase after your Knight has been selected as the target. It can be a very useful ability to survive a bit more and make all those extra wounds you got become useful.
Reform The Line!
Detachment – Spearhead-At-Arms
Stratagem – Mantle of the Mentor – 1CP
Knight Dataslate – Armigers
This is a pretty simple one that lets you select either one Armiger unit or one Imperial Knight Titanic unit and one or more Armigers affected by their bondsman ability. The Armigers get the ability to fallback and shoot which is very powerful and if you stack it with one of the Enhancements you can have 3 Armigers get the ability to fallback and shoot. Just being able to stack so much for 1CP and an enhancement you can use each turn is powerful.
BONUS Combo – OH Yeah!!!
Detachment – Questoris Companions
Stratagem – Driven by the Past- 1CP
This is the simple Advance and Charge ability you can use on a Titanic Knight. This is amazing for 1CP as you can easily get your a larger Threat range with your giant mean boys. The Pain train is coming and you better watch out.
