Warhammer 40K: Drukhari Crusade Rules Preview Brings The Pain

September 25, 2025

The Drukhari are launching raids all over realspace and now you’ll be able to take them on Crusade with their new codex!

Crusade is a different way to build and collect a 40k Army. For the Drukhari, they are going out to capture resources and slaves to bring back to Commorragh in a twisted form of conquest. The more resources you secure the more territory in the Dark City you can hold. But you’ll have Rivals gunning for your Ascendent Lord the whole time…

“It all starts by designating one of your Characters as the Ascendent Lord, which denotes them as the mover and shaker at the head of your push for prominence. This means that it’ll be their name and face on all of your territorial acquisitions – very good – but they’ll also have a giant target on their back and the attention of the Dark City’s greatest fiends – very bad.”

Drukhari Crusade Rules

The Drukhari are taking a slightly different twist with their Crusade Rules than other factions. They are getting an update to their previous rules for occupying districts in Commorragh. Owning these districts provides a special power to your Ascendent Lord when you own three territories in a category.

These powers vary by the District. The good news is we have a few examples from GW to check out:

Now, it wouldn’t be a Drukhari Crusade if some other Lord in the Dark City wasn’t trying to undermine you. The good news is that Aspiring Drukhari Lords are more than ready to take up the mantle of your Rival. At the start of your Crusade, you’ll generate three Rival Lords who will be working against your plots.

“Each one has their own personality, chosen by rolling randomly on a table of Rival Traits. A Ruthless Machinator uses their silver tongue to coax more criminals to their side – giving them a small bump in Power over what they’d normally possess – while the Devious Opportunist makes an unfortunate turn of events for your Ascendent Lord even worse by engaging in Rival Activity twice should your boss keel over in battle.”

The fun doesn’t just stop there. These Rivals can also get up to no good thanks to the Rival Activity they can do. There’s various tricks and traps they will pull on your Lord and we’ve got a few examples of those as well.

Honestly, this system does sound pretty neat. It reminds me more of a Necromunda campaign than a Crusade Army. But that’s kind of the point! If your Ascendant Lord does manage to make it all the way to the top and control all 12 districts, then they might even catch the attention of one Asdrubael Vect! Too bad that he doesn’t have a model you can get these days… Anyhow, I’m sure getting his attention will turn out just fine.

Hmm…well that’s seems less good. Oh well. At least it’s an excuse to start another Crusade!

The Drukhari Codex is up for Pre-Orders this weekend. Are you ready to go on Crusade to take over the Dark City?
