D&D: The Iron Kingdoms RPG Gets Occult With ‘The Strangelight Workshop’ for 5e

October 17, 2025

The Strangelight Workshop is a new, standalone RPG set in the Iron Kingdoms (of War Machine fame), available now from Steamforged Games.

The Iron Kingdoms are back in a big way. In an occult way. Steamforged Games has just released a new, standalone RPG set in the world of the Iron Kingdoms. In it, you’ll dive into the world of the occult, shining an “eerie new light” on the steam technology, arcane science, and otherworldly horrors that make the Iron Kingdoms so much fun.

In this RPG, you’ll play members of the Strangelight Workshop who are tasked with investigating the occult and other oddities that crop up in the Iron Kingdoms. You’ll dig into the mysteries, presumably find some sort of Cryxian horror (or maybe an Infernal), and then you and your team of field agents will have to deal with it. Usually with steam and lightning. And probably magic bullets.

Iron Kingdoms RPG: The Strangelight Workshop Means It’s About To Get Eldritch In The IK

If you aren’t familiar, the Iron Kingdoms is a land of steampunk technology, huge mechs, high tech elves who wield gravity weapons, and a whole lot of otherworldly horrors just waiting in the wings. It’s fun. And the Strangelight Workshop book and its accompanying Specternomicon are two exciting new ways to dig into whatever is happening in the secret corners of the world.

In the Strangelight core rulebook, and its 332 pages, you’ll find tons of rules for stepping into the Iron Kingdom, as well as the lore you’ll need to understand just what this horrible creature is that’s trying to eat your face. And maybe even why.

Presumably you’ll also find new items, new rules for magic, and my personal favorite, a new investigative system. After all, the Strangelight Workshop is about uncovering the mysteries of the world, for better or worse. Usually worse.

“Enter the Iron Kingdoms, a world where arcane science and steam power combine to create wonders that have revolutionized civilization. Yet, lurking on the fringes ofp rogress are dangerous creatures – specters, phantoms, infernals, and eldritch beings.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to assemble a team of field agents. Armed with peculiar prototype technology, quick thinking, and unorthodox methods, you’ll delve into paranormal case files that rangef rom the bizarre to the outright deadly. When someone has a strange problem, you’ll have an even stranger solution.”

The Specternomicon, as you might imagine, is a book full of malevolent creatures just waiting to eat your face. You’ll find more than 80 new monsters that will teach you the meaning of terror.

You can try both of these games today, over at Steamforged Games.

It’s always Cryx, especially when it isn’t!
