MtG: New D&D ‘Secret Lair’ Superdrop Has Baldur’s Gate, Ravenloft, And The Forgotten Realms

February 5, 2026

Magic: The Gathering and D&D are together again, with a new Secret Lair coming next week, featuring Baldur’s Gate 3 and more.

A new Secret Lair Superdrop is in the works for next Monday, February 9th. And this one is a big ol’ D&D-themed superdrop. It’s a celebration of all things Dungeons and/or Dragons, including some of its many worlds like Ravenloft and the Forgotten Realms, as well as a few sets inspired by Baldur’s Gate 3, because of course there are. Let’s take a look!

The D&D Secret Lair Superdrop

In the upcoming Superdrop, there are seven new sets, all in all, each one centered around a different area of D&D. Well, around four different areas, all in all. Zooming out, the big things for the superdrop are effectively The Forgotten Realms as a concept (two different sets around this one), Ravenloft, Baldur’s Gate 3, which, yes, technically it takes place in the Forgotten Realms, but I feel like it’s distinct enough to warrant its own category. And then there’s D&D blended with the concept of the late 80s.

No, seriously. One of the sets is called Black Lights & Dark Dungeons, and it features stuff that looks like it should be airbrushed on the side of a van or hung up in fuzzy-textured posters in your cool cousin’s basement, which always smells just a little bit like weed.

Here’s a look at the announcement, with a special shout-out to god’s favorite princess, Shadowheart, and Forgotten Realms’ most divorced dad, Gale:

“Gather your party and set out for adventure with Secret Lair’s Roll For Initiative Superdrop, a seven-drop celebration of Dungeons & Dragons. Packed with legendary heroes, fearsome monsters, and spells that get you through the dungeon, it arrives February 9, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT. And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, whether your heart belongs to a dangerously charming Wizard or a complicated Cleric, there’s room in this party for romance, too.”

Of course, these are probably going to go pretty quickly, considering the characters in each of them. You might want to make sure you’ve got your Wizards Account ready so that you can join the pre-queue at 8am PT to get ready for the queue-queue to checkout at 9. Which is a hassle, sure. But so are scalpers.

Why do I think this drop will go quickly? Well just take a look at what’s in the drop.

What’s In The Drop?!

It all starts with Shadowheart’s Devotion. And, frankly, it’s nice to see a character other than Karlach and Astarion get their time in the sun. Shadowheart was my second playthrough’s romance choice in Baldur’s Gate 3 – I mean it was pretty hard not to romance Lae’zel the first time around. And her superdrop is a five card set.

In it you will get Shadowheart, Dark Justiciar – because in this drop nobody told her what Shar did. She’ll let you sacrifice a creature to draw cards. You’ll also get Beseech the Queen, Black Market, Victimize, and Ancient Bronze Dragon. It’s a handful of powerful cards that capitalize on creatures dying, all thanks to Shadowheart going emo mode.

Gale’s Ambition, on the other hand, features Waterdeep’s most-divorced Wizard taking the form of Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy. He’s tough for a Wizard, and whenever you cast an instant or sorcery from your hand, you can cast up to one of the other type from your graveyard. Plus you get a Background.

You’ll also get Arcane Denial, Archmage’s Charm (featuring a shirtless, starry Gale), Brainstorm, and Personal Tutor. Plenty of ways to control the Weave (and your deck) while also making sure that you can counter an opponent’s spells.

We aren’t done in Baldur’s Gate, though. Because there’s a third set, Shadows Over Baldur’s Gate. This four-card set shows off the Jewel of Amn in vibrant, brilliant color. This one is for your Commander players out there, you’ll get Prosper, Tome-Bound, a legendary Tiefling Warlock who is a 1/4 with Deathtouch, sure. But really you want him because you can exile cards off the top of your deck to play, and any time you play a card from exile, you get a treasure token.

Plus you get Grim Hireling, a Wild-Magic Sorcerer, and Xorn. All of which play with the cast from exile and/or treasure token mechanic. It’s a solid engine to build a Commander deck around.

We visit the Forgotten Realms now, for Whispers In Candlekeep. This four-card set has a reprint of Counterspell. Worth it for that alone. Especially since the new art shows off some toothsome grimoires. You also get a Dragonborn Champion and two different dragons, because apparently WotC is trying to show off powerful dragons.

There’s Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm, who lets you copy nontoken Dragons. And Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient, a 4/4 with flying, haste, and the ability to turn attacking creature’s power into mana to supplement your attacks.

The real jewel of the Superdrop, for my money though, is the Lands of the Forgotten Realms set. I mean, we all know that the cooler your lands, the cooler your deck. And just look at this collection. You get 2 each of the basic lands, each one depicting a scene from around Faerun. See which ones you recognize!

Hopping over to Ravenloft, we find Strahd’s Descent, which gives you The Devil Strahd (who is really just Strefan, Maurer Progenitor), Cast-Off Consort (the Bloodletter of Aclazotz), End the Festivities, and Castle Ravenloft (actually Voldaren Estate). If you want your vampire deck to be even more gothic, this is a great way to do that.

Finally, the Black Lights & Dark Dungeons set has a collection of cards that look like they were once sold alongside a collection of dragon-shaped “water pipes.” In this, you’ll get Seasoned Dungeoneer, a Displacer Kitten, Tortured Existence, and Sefris of the Hidden Ways. This set is all about the Dungeon Crawl mechanic, and it looks like the artwork that would be on the walls while you and your friends would go on a cool dungeon crawl in your basement IRL.

If you like any of these, be sure to check out the D&D Secret Lair Superdrop on February 9th!
