Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is one of my favorite Warhammer games. It’s gorgeous, action-packed, and a ton of fun. Early last month, SEGA dropped a remaster for the original, packed with higher fidelity and textures, improved models, UI overhauls, and more. Reviews have not been kind to it, noting the lack of updates to justify the new price tag and its inability to launch on the Steam Deck. However, that last issue has changed, and we can now play the game on the Deck.
The new update includes a number of fixes and improvements across the board, but the biggest ones come for the Steam Deck. The game is now launchable on the Deck, which previously stopped anyone from playing it on the go. We also have new button prompts, sound effects, and controller glyphs for the Deck, making this update one that should make it a solid experience.
For the most part, it is running like a charm. I was getting a full 90 FPS in the opening chapters with around 15W battery drain, which I would say is pretty fantastic. The default settings put everything on and at the highest quality, so I am elated that it works as well as it does.
However, there was one issue that did pop up. I did pause the game for a bit and come back to it, but my inputs had stopped working, so I had to close and reopen the game. It worked just fine after that, but leaving it too long would cause this issue to happen again. This is a consistent issue, and hopefully it will be fixed soon.
The patch also updates some translations and localizations, big improvements to HUD elements, new effects across menus, fixes for a softlock, improved challenge decorators, and improved Epic Online Services invite handling. There are also some fixes for missing sound effects events and updated button textures.
