Is the Blades of Khorne Spearhead a good deal? Yes, but for a slightly different reason beyond the price. Let’s break this one down.
With all the new Combat Patrols I feel like the Age of Sigmar Spearheads get overlooked. That’s a shame because AoS Spearhead is arguably better to play than 40k Combat Patrol games…but that’s another debate. Anyhow, I wanted to take a moment and bust out the napkin-math once again for the Spearhead box for the Blades of Khorne. Will it save you money? Yes. But there’s another reason why this one in particular is a good deal. But let’s talk pricing breakdown first.
Spearhead: Blades of Khorne – Pricing Breakdown
Contents:
Total Individual MSRP: $222
Total Savings: $77
When I first starting working on this breakdown I was under the impression that the Flesh Hounds were only $60. But that’s the price for just five of them. So $60 x 2 = $120. That’s a much better deal than I thought. This puts the discount at roughly 34% which is certainly inline with the savings I would expect from these Spearhead boxes. That said, while the discount is nice, there’s a few other reasons you might want to consider this deal.
For starters, Karanak is online only. That means you can’t just go down to your local store and find one of these miniatures on the shelf. Unless they have one of the old versions that’s been sitting there a while — in which case, you’re in luck! The Spearhead box is going to be a lot more common to get for stores that carry Warhammer in stock.
The other problem you might run into is that the Flesh Hounds are currently out of stock, at least on the US website. That means if you want to get a hold if these doggies you’re going to have to wait. Or get a Spearhead box.
Peat, Repeat, or No-Peat?
For this particular Spearhead box, I’m afraid even with the savings and the miniatures includes, I can only give this one a single purchase recommendation. It’s a “Peat” for sure — if you are starting a Blades of Khorne army or just want to play Spearhead games. Why can’t I call this one a repeat? Karanak is an 0-1 choice for the army to start. You really can’t do much with a second version of him. I’m also on the fence about the Claws of Karanak because they are technically not a 0-1 choice, but that units can’t be reinforced. It was/is a warband from Warcry. Technically, I’m not seeing any restrictions based on the battle profiles. But I personally wouldn’t bring more than one in a larger game. You do you though.
The only current reason I can see to buy more than 1 copy is for the extra Flesh Hounds. As mentioned, those are out of stock online and kind of hard to get. This box comes with 10 of them. But then you end up with the extras as mentioned above. So I’d stick with one and call it a day. It does seem like a fun Spearhead force to try out at least.

I’d go with one and certainly give it a run in a Spearhead game. But that’s probably it.
