Altadena Library Concludes Summer D&D – Pasadena Weekendr

August 9, 2025

The Altadena Library will host the final session of its summer Dungeons & Dragons campaign on Monday, August 11 at 6:00 p.m., capping off a four-part adventure series that reflects explosive growth in tabletop gaming.

The free event at 600 E. Mariposa Street (626-798-0833) concludes sessions that began June 9.

Designed specifically for adults with no prior experience, the campaign demonstrates how libraries embrace gaming as community programming.

“Are you ready for a summer of adventure?! Altadena Library is holding a 4-part D&D campaign for adults, no experience with Tabletop RPGs necessary!” the library promoted.

The timing coincides with remarkable industry growth. The tabletop gaming market expanded from $15.84 billion in 2024 to $18.48 billion in 2025, while interest in Dungeons & Dragons increased by 85 percent since 2020.

Libraries nationwide are recognizing this trend. The American Library Association published guidance on tabletop role-playing games at school and public libraries in June, and Wizards of the Coast donated 75 D&D Library Kits to Washington State libraries in March 2024.

“We recommend signing up for the whole series to get the full experience, but registering for a single night is allowed,” the library advises. However, “You will need to sign up for each session you plan to attend!”

The Monday session represents more than campaign’s end—it’s part of role-playing games’ shift from niche hobby to mainstream entertainment.
