When it comes to Collectible Card Games (CCG), UniVersus is right up there among greats like Magic the Gathering, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Featuring collectible, IP-based fandom cards, UniVersus allows players to pit their fan-favorite characters from a variety of fandoms against one another in an all-out battle for glory. Coming August 16, 2024, the latest fandom to land on UniVersus battlemats is Hajime Isayama’s Attack On Titan, the dark shonen anime and manga that took the world by storm.
Attack On Titan is a rich and brutal world featuring some of anime’s most recognizable and beloved characters. From the infamous Eren Yeager who started the Rumbling to the friends like Armin Arlert and Mikas Ackerman, who banded together to stop his raging tirade, UniVersus’ Attack On Titan: Battle for Humanity brings iconic characters and events to the table, where players decide the outcome as they strategically lay down cards in an epic fight to either save or destroy humanity.

Disney Lorcana Gateway Gives Beginners a More Fun, Engaging Way to Learn the TCG
The new Disney Lorcana Gateway opens up the TCG to players new to it and TCGs in general giving an organized, enjoyable way to learn the game.
Attack On Titan has been one of the most notable manga and anime for well over a decade. With Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps standing tall against the titans that made their world a living nightmare, the series explored plenty of exciting battles, experiences, tactics and relationships. With the manga wrapping in 2021 and the anime airing its final episode at the tail end of 2023, fans have spend the last several months looking for something to fill the void. While not everyone was happy with the way the story ended, the majority are still hardcore fans looking for ways to keep the tale and its characters alive.
The rich story, epic battles and highly recognizable characters from Attack On Titan make it the perfect licensed franchise to join the UniVersus CCG. The structure of UniVersus as a game makes it a worthy platform for the action and excitement of Attack On Titan. Anime-related CCGs, like the One Piece Card Game, have always been popular among fans, but the fact that UniVersus features a multitude of licensed franchises from anime and gaming both just confirms that CCGs lend well to expanding stories and character experiences beyond the universe they are directly set in.
How to Get Started With Attack On Titan: Battle for Humanity
There Are Several Ways to Launch Right Into the Battle for Humanity
Clash Decks are one of the easiest ways for players to dive into a UniVersus battle because they are built with everything players need to launch into the game prepared. AoT: Battle for Humanity features two Clash Decks: Mikasa Ackerman and Levi Ackerman. Both of these pre-constructed decks contain 60 cards, making them a great point for leaping into a UniVersus game because they contain everything needed to get started. While Levi’s deck is designed to be ruthless, dealing out massive amounts of damage, Mikasa’s deck is tailored more toward quick maneuvers that demonstrate her efficiency.
Players who are already familiar with UniVersus’ gameplay have another option: Attack On Titan Challenger Series. Challenger Series decks are fully fleshed out and ready to play. However, instead of featuring just one character to play, this deck contains both Eren Yeager and Armin Arlert. The AoT Challenger Series also contains Ultra Rare cards, and a Collector’s Booster Pack containing alt-art cards or foil cards. Additionally, the Eren Yeager card is UniVersus‘ very first double-sided card, which allows players to ferociously attack and command before transforming into the Attack Titan. Playing as Armin, on the other hand, allows for a more thoughtful and measured game that explores the character’s penchant for brilliance and strategy.
Overall, the complete AoT: Battle for Humanity collection will contain 20 character cards, many of them double-sided to embody their titan transformations. There are also numerous alt-art cards that fully explores the gorgeous visuals from Hajime Isayama’s unforgettable manga, making them prime for collectors. Overall, there are 30 ultra-rare cards and 12 secret rares for collectors to hunt down and add to their collection. Collectors have even more to look forward to with the alternative card editions of those secret rares. There are also Chrome rares, some of the most powerful cards in UniVersus that not only look stunning, but are desined to turn the tide of battle when played. These cards are so rare, there are only 100 in existence, which means hunting them down and collecting them will be a worthwhile challenge for the diehard collector.
With close to 300 cards in the base at this time, players will have plenty of time to snap up booster packs to build their decks and search for those Ultra and Chrome rares to add to their collection. Individual booster packs range from between $3-$5, depending on the retailer, and full display boxes sell for $110 on the official UVS website. Levi and Mikasa starter decks retail for $14.99, while the Eren and Armin Challenger Series deck is priced around $34.99.

13 Best Cards to Pull in Pokémon TCG Shrouded Fable
While Pokémon’s Shrouded Fable is a compact set, it’s filled with cards for both competitive players and collectors to enjoy.
UniVersus began in 2006 as Universal Fighting System, and over the years leading up to their acquisition by UVS, they partnered with licensed gaming and anime properties like Mortal Kombat, Megaman, Penny Arcade, Cowboy Bebop Tekken and Streetfighter, just to name a few. The one thing these decks all have in common, including the more recent UVS decks, is that they host a unique resource symbol system that defines each card’s properties and gameplay capabilities. This makes it easy to mix and match cards across franchises to build a fun deck that might feature attacks or characters from more than one favorite franchise. Each card must have at least one symbol in common in order to exist within the same deck.
This system also allows for cross-franchise deck battles between players. For example, the My Hero Academia deck could easily go up against Attack On Titan for an all-out anime franchise brawl to find out which universe (or deck build) is the most powerful of them all. Throwing Eren Yeager as the Attack Titan up against Godzilla, or having him battle Vox Machina’s Vax or Vex are all epic showdowns waiting to happen. The possibilities are endless, especially as their list of licensed properties continues to expand. And that’s just one of the benefits of a game like UniVersus. The familiarity of the properties in their catalog of games already appeals to fans and collectors, and the fact that this is a game done right is more than enough to make Attack On Titan: Battle for Humanity a contender.
