D&D: ‘Astarion’s Book Of Hungers’ Puts The Vamp In Vampires

November 12, 2025

Astarion’s Book of Hungers comes out alongside the Forgotten Realms book. And it wants you to have a bloody good time in Faerun.

Astarion’s Book of Hungers is one of several new web-exclusive (and for now, D&D Beyond exclusive, but we’ll see how long that lasts) supplements coming out alongside the Forgotten Realms campaign setting books. This one, as the name implies, is all about vampires. It is headed up by nine, other than everyone’s favorite vampire-spawn turned reluctant hero(?), the disastrous Astarion. What sanguine delights does this book hold?

Mostly an updated Dhampir species, several new feats, and some vampiric adventures, and a few adversaries, some of which you might recognize from Baldur’s Gate 3.

Astarion’s Book of Hungers

The new book is chock full of vampiric content. On the player side of things, you’ll find a host of new player options. There are two new backgrounds, Vampire Devotee and Vampire Survivor. Both give new options for players who have encountered a creature of the night before, in either direction.

But I think most players might be interested in either the revamped (pun intended) Dhampir or the new feats. There are several new feats that give a bit of vampiric flavor to characters. You might make Sanguine Strikes to be able to heal yourself when dealing damage to a bloodied creature. Or embrace your masochistic side with Delicious Pain, a feat that lets you bask in the pleasure of pain to gain resistance after you take normal damage once.

Of course, there’s also plenty for DMs to dig into as well. There’s a handful of new monsters and several adventures to play around with. There’s a very vampiric bent to these, but it’s not all fangs. There are also some new devils to make deals with as well.

“Embrace the seductive darkness of Baldur’s Gate with a shadow-kissed expansion full of blood, danger, and intrigue.”

The whole supplement retails for $15. It is a D&D Beyond exclusive. And while players may get a lot of of it, I think this book will be most rewarding for DMs looking to add some of that addictive darkness to their games.

Either way, you can find the book on D&D Beyond at the link below. Keep an eye out for this and other supplements as 5.5E steps into a whole new era.

Sounds like a bloody good time!
