Dimension 20 steps into the World of Darkness with its upcoming ‘City Council of Darkness‘ actual play season. Get ready for a town hall.
Exciting news on the World of Darkness front, as next week marks the start of a new season of Dimension 20, one of the most popular actual play RPG shows out there right now. With Brennan Lee Mulligan at the helm, the venerable series takes on the antediluvian horror RPG series better known as the World of Darkness. And what stands out to me is that it’s an official partnership. It kind of signifies the direction Paradox/White Wolf is going in 2026.
Dimension 20’s City Council of Darkness Premieres Next Week
Paradox, in an update to the “Vamily” highlighted the new series, whose trailer dropped for the first time last week, adding in a little more context for the move, which is in part to help the World of Darkness put its best foot forward. And you can see how much this is a big step for the World of Darkness in reaching a broader audience – just take a look at the Dimension 20 subreddit and you’ll see a huge swath of fans who were completely unfamiliar with Vampire: The Masquerade.
Truly, no shade intended here, but people outside of the industry or even their own niche in the hobby often lose sight of just how monolithic D&D is to those even on the outer edges of tabletop RPGs. I mean, it feels like only relatively recently people who haven’t been playing RPGs for decades have started saying they want to play RPGs instead of ‘they want to play D&D’ the way a Texan says they want a Coke when they’re asking for a Sprite.
It’s a new move for Paradox/White Wolf. And I’m here for it. Also, worth noting, it’s not the first time Brennan Lee Mulligan has dabbled in the World of Darkness. If you watched the ‘By Night’ series, you’ll see Mulligan make a memorable appearance in LA By Night. But what horrors await in the new season of Dimension 20, premiering on April 8th?
I think the trailer really speaks for itself…
I’ve seen people call it “What We Do in the Suburbs” and honestly, that sounds about right. It feels very Welcome to Night Vale to me. Either way, I’ll count it as win.
Here’s hoping that Paradox/White Wolf are ready to follow up the series with more than just a book release or something. Played right, this could be a whole new era for the World of Darkness.
See you in Purpee City Hall!
