EXCLUSIVE – Announcing ‘D&D: Ravenloft’ A New 4-Issue Series From Dark Horse

April 11, 2026

Dark Horse will be visiting the mist-shrouded Demiplane of Dread in D&D: Ravenloft an upcoming four-issue series starting this August.

One of the most popular settings for D&D is the shadow-streaked, mist-haunted plane of Ravenloft. It’s not so much a single world, as it is a collection of demiplanes bounded by an eldritch mist and watched over by mysterious powers that both confine and torment the people dwelling within. Soon, you’ll have a new chance to explore it thanks to a new comic series coming from Dark Horse.

Titled D&D: Ravenloft, the four-issue series will take readers inside the various realms of Ravenloft on a journey with the young proteges of the legendary monster hunter, Rudolph van Richten. BoLS can exclusively reveal the new cover art, which you’ll find below!

Dark Horse’s ‘D&D: Ravenloft’ – Your Journey Through Horror Starts This August

Dark Horse has put together quite the team for this new miniseries. Amy Chu, whose work you might recognize from Red Sonja or Carmilla: The First Vampire is writing the tale, while Ariela Kristantina (The Girl Who Draws on Whales, Adora and the Distance) provides Line Art, and Arif Prianto (Poison Ivy, Green Lantern Corps) provides the colors, and Haley Rose-Lyon (BUMP: A Horror Anthology, Jill and the Killers) handles the letters.

And of course the cover art is absolutely stunning. Featured through out this article are the five different covers for Issue #1, with art from Guilem March, Riley Rossmo, Francesco Francavilla, Todor Hristov, and Angela Wu.

The story itself follows the tale of Rudolph Van Richten’s young proteges across the Demiplane of Dread. Because it seems as though Ravenloft itself may be in danger – what could possibly threaten the realm of the Darklords? And why? You’ll have to find out with the rest of us in August. Here’s a brief summary from the announcement:

“Ravenloft is falling apart, and nobody knows why. Fortunately, monster hunter Ez D’Avenir is on the case! She’s searching the frozen wasteland of Lamordia for an undead creature that may hold the key to Ravenloft’s fate. But when Darklord Viktra Mordenheim catches wind of her quest, Ez is suddenly the one being hunted!”

You can find Ravenloft #1 (of 4) anywhere you get your comics starting August 19. Though you can pre-order it now, if you really want to make sure that your copy is waiting there for you on that fated new comic book day.

I love D&D horror. Ravenloft is a longtime favorite setting of mine – I think in part because of how empowering it is to play as the heroes who stand up against the impossible darkness. It’s a classic fantasy archetype, one players have been falling in love with ever since the first Ravenloft (Module I6) released back in 1983. We keep coming back to shadowed places, hoping that someone will save us. I’m curious to see what they do with Ez D’avenir, whom you’ll doubtless recognize if you’ve played through Curse of Strahd or read through Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft. Seems like August is going to be a good month for dark tales!
