Games Workshop Rumor Engine: Scanner Time

July 25, 2025

Looks like the new Rumor Engine is out and it’s scanning for something. Either that or it’s a really fancy handheld grimdark gaming device.

Welcome to another Tuesday and a brand new Rumor Engine from Games Workshop. This one looks pretty straightforward. But before I get into my theories you should probably take a look for yourself.

“It might be the grim darkness of the far future, a nightmarish existence wherein an incalculably oppressive society has forgotten more about technology than you will ever know, but they still need to be able to control things. Here, we humbly submit, is how.”

Rumor Engine – Scanner Time

So again, this looks like some sort of scanner. However, I do wonder why it has those thumb sticks. This is clearly more than just a scanning tool or Auspex. It could be a remote control for some other device. But either way I think the real question is who’s holding it? This is where the theories and guessing come into play…

To me this piece of equipment looks Imperial. Or at least Imperial adjacent. Those hands could be a guardsmen but they remind me more of a member of the Leagues of Votann. Perhaps a Yaegir or some other Hernkyn option.

I could see them using some sort of remote device quite easily — especially given their background. Now, I’m still not 100% sure of this one but that’s going to be my guess for now. If you’ve got any theories on this one drop us a line in the comments! Now, if only there was another faction that uses Imperial adjacent tech and has a use for remote controls…

Yeah…If only. I wonder who else this one could be teasing. I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.

Genestealer Cults? Leagues of Votann? A new Primaris Space Marine Lieutenant? Let us know what you think!
