Games Workshop has a free PDF you can download right now to play the Imperialis Militia in your games of Horus Heresy.
There’s a new free addition to the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness. You can now play as the Imperialis Milita on the tabletop with these official rules. It’s time for the underdogs to bite back!

“The latest free rules for the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness are now here. The plucky, rag-tag forces of the Imperialis Militia are ready to join the battle.”
Send In The Imperialis Militia
That main thing that separates the Imperialis Militia from other fighting forces are the new Provenances of War Rules. Essentially, these determine what sorts of bonus or special rule you’ll get for fielding this particular force.
I huge chunk of these rules are related to these Provenances of War as they add special rules to the units or provide extra wargear options — or both.
I’m not going to list them all here. You should download the rules and check them out for yourself if you’re interested. There are some potent combos for sure. Also, if you take a model with the Planetary Overlord trait, you can have access to another Provenance, too.
Now, if you’re like me, you might be wondering “how this works and who’s this army list for?” Well, GW puts it best:
“The list itself is still a grab-bag of options designed to appeal to kitbashers, even including new units to better account for the selection of civilian Imperial vehicles that are now available as miniatures. It makes use of the full range – if you’ve ever wanted to make an abhuman army using Necromundan Squats miniatures, this is the list for you!
While remaining a hobbyist’s army at heart, the Militia list is still intended to be fun and rewarding to play with, even if it lacks some of the competitive edge of other armies – after all, asking levied conscripts to fight Space Marines is a tall order… “
So yeah, this one is for all you crazy kit-bashers out there. Go nuts! I can see where GW is going with this one.
You could literally buy an entire army of Ironhead Squat Prospectors and convert them for use in the Horus Heresy.

That would be quite the monumental task and quite the hobby project by itself! And that’s just one example. After a quick skim of the options, I can see more kitbashing ideas. Particularly with the Genestealer Cult miniatures…
ANYHOW, this army list also has a ton of other things you’ll need to run the Imperialis Militia. This being an army list, it’s got all the rules for the various units you’ll need to build the army. What’s neat is that this includes many of the more civilian minded options in the model range, too.
That sure sounds like a Goliath Rockgrinder to me. Or may you want an excuse to run a few Cargo-8 Ridgehaulers…
Seems like they have an option for that, too. This army list seems like a lot of fun to mess around with for a hobby fan and kitbasher. I’d strongly suggest planning out a list before you start doing all that conversion work though — unless you just want to grab stuff you already have and see what fits. Which may ALSO be the point.
This one is for the kitbashers out there. Have fun.
