Switch 2 Gets CRPG Rogue Trader While Dark Heresy Alpha Is Closer Than You Think

October 16, 2025

Owlcat Games outlined a busy Q4 during IGN Fan Fest, confirming two big beats for its Warhammer 40,000 projects.

Rogue TraderRogue Trader

First, Rogue Trader is officially headed to Nintendo Switch 2, marking the studio’s debut on the new system. No release date was shared, but the port follows June’s Lex Imperialis expansion, a 15-hour story add-on centered on the Adeptus Arbites and a new companion, Solomorne Anthar.

For those who haven’t boarded the von Valancius voidship yet, Rogue Trader’s campaign puts the player in charge of a Warrant-bearing dynasty with choices that reshape star systems, carried by party-based, turn-based battles, and a constant push-and-pull between Imperial duty and profit. Today’s announcement arrived alongside a nod to Warhammer Day, with a promise of more news soon.

The second beat is Dark Heresy’s public milestone: an Open Alpha is slated for Q4 2025. Dark Heresy shifts focus to the Inquisition, starting the player as an acolyte before assembling a warband that can include a Catachan Guardsman and even a Kroot mercenary.

It leans into investigations and consequence-heavy decisions, with fully voiced dialogues and turn-based combat systems that track and pressure party morale.

The setting ties into the Noctis Aeterna and the enigma of the Tyrant Star, aiming for a more investigative, reactive structure than Rogue Trader’s sector-spanning expedition.

On platforms, Rogue Trader is currently available on PC (Steam, Epic, GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; Owlcat did not announce a date for the Switch 2 version.

If you’re returning after Lex Imperialis, note that the game now has two major story DLCs, Void Shadows (2024) and Lex Imperialis (June 24, 2025), with the latter adding the Arbites, new familiars, and a substantial legal-themed storyline.

Looking ahead, Owlcat says Dark Heresy can be wishlisted on PC storefronts (Steam, Epic, GOG), with consoles listed in today’s press materials as PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox One/Series X|S. Expect further updates around Warhammer Day as the team shares more on both the Switch 2 port and the alpha’s exact timing. Below Dark Heresy in a Nutshell video.
