Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 was announced on August 19, 2025, during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event and will release in 2026 on PC through Steam. It is the first mainline Dawn of War game in nearly a decade and returns players to the planet Kronus, set 200 years after the events of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Dark Crusade.
The announcement came with a cinematic trailer narrated by Steve Blum, who also voices Captain Cyrus of the Blood Ravens, the central character of the game. In this new chapter, the Blood Ravens fight on Kronus against the Orks and the Necrons while the Adeptus Mechanicus appear for the first time in the series as a fully independent, playable faction, joining the Space Marines to complete the four factions available at launch.
The campaign will include more than 70 missions, with each faction receiving its own dedicated storyline co-written by Black Library author John French. All campaigns can be played solo or in cooperative mode, while additional content includes skirmishes against AI, the return of Last Stand, and online multiplayer with support for up to six players.
Gameplay footage showed large-scale base-building and fortress construction, with massive armies clashing in battles enhanced by an expanded Sync Kill system. Games Workshop confirmed that Dawn of War 4 returns to its “mass-battle, base-building roots,” though this time, it will feature a “brutal, expanded Sync Kill system.”
The game is being developed by King Art Games, the studio behind Iron Harvest, and published by Deep Silver, making it the first Dawn of War title not created by Relic Entertainment, which developed the original trilogy and the Definitive Edition of the first game.
The original Dawn of War, released in 2004, launched with four factions and eventually expanded to nine through multiple expansions. Dawn of War 4 will also begin with four Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Orks, and Necrons—though no additional armies have been announced at this time.
Screenshots released with the announcement depict Blood Ravens fighting Orks in a street battle, Necrons deploying a Canoptek Doomstalker against the Blood Ravens in an icy environment, an Ork base producing new units such as Battlewagons, and Necron Warriors advancing with Doomstalker support.
The game will feature the return of the Army Painter tool for customizing army color schemes, along with an in-game editor for player-created content. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is scheduled to launch in 2026 on PC via Steam, and no console versions have been confirmed.
