Warhammer Underworlds: Spitewood Brings On Two New Warbands & More

October 2, 2025

There’s a new expansion coming to Warhammer Underworlds. With Spitewood, the Kurnothi square off against the new Helsmith invaders.

This weekend the new Warhammer Underworlds: Spitewood is coming to pre-order. Inside the new box are two new warbands that are joining the game as well as two new Rivals Decks to check out. You’ll still want a copy of Embergard as this is technically an expansion, but it’s got almost everything you need to start playing Underworlds.

Kurnoth’s Heralds

First up, we have the new Kurnoth’s Heralds. The Kurnothi are (relatively) new creatures to the Sylvaneth range. We’ve seen a few of them before typically in just a small group — like the warband joining the game now. And if you want to get super technical about it, the Kurnothi are “aelves, centauroids, and tree-folk all united under Kurnoth” according to WarCom.

Anyhow this new warband features three characters and they each pack a punch. They also each have a movement of 4 and a nice 5 health to back that up, too. They don’t have super high defense but their speed, health, and power makes them a fairly aggressive warband on the field. And they have some nice tricks to lean into.

Once they get Inspired, they are extra tough to take down in their own territory. Reading into these two abilities, they really do seem like a hit-and-run type of Warband. Lashing out at enemies that get too close to their territory and then retreating back for the extra benefits.

They also come with a few once per game abilities like The Endless Hunt above. Lenwythe, as another example, has a Precision Volley they can loose once per game. Ylarin can boost their weapon attacks once per game to gain Cleave or Ensnare as their once per game ability.

In any case, I’m actually very curious to see if GW does more with the Centauroids of the Kurnothi in the future. They seem like a natural fit for a different branch of the Sylvaneth army.

The Blood of the Bull

The Helsmiths of Hashut are the new kids on the block for Age of Sigmar. Not only are they joining the ranks of that game but there’s also a new Helsmith warband coming with Spitewood. This Warband is know as The Blood of the Bull. According to WarCom, they are the remains of “a formidable army was destroyed in a surprise night raid by the Kurnothi.” The War Despot leading them called in the last of their favors and is now attempting to strike into the heart of the Spitewood for revenge. I have a feeling that’s not going to end well.

The Blood of the Bull might be deep in enemy territory but they don’t seem to be bothered. In fact, it seems that their embarrassing defeat has only fueled their anger further. They are Empowered by Spite. No, really — it’s their core rule:

The Helsmiths also have a good mix of members in their warband. They can be a threat up close or at a distance. They even have some chaff in the form of Grisk — but don’t tell them that! It’s also funny that Grisk can’t really be ignored by the enemy due to his Hobgrot Cunning. This can make him a priority target for the enemy but that also opens up opportunities for him as a distraction.

This warband really wants build up those treasure tokens to get daemonforge points and then unleash the pain. Still, they are more well rounded as a warband than they might appear. But that also depends on what Rivals Deck you opt to take with them…

New Rivals Decks With Spitewood

WarCom has a new article detailing the styles of these two new Rivals Decks included with Spitewood.

“These two decks are the Strike deck Hunting Grounds, and the Mastery deck Deadly Synergy, each one filled with new Objectives, Ploys, and Upgrades that provide you with additional ways to play.”

Obviously, these two decks synergize with the two Warbands in the box, but that doesn’t mean you can’t swap things around. Hunting Grounds is really slanted into the playstyle of the Kurnoth’s Heralds. It’s also pretty thematically appropriate. With cards like Deny Invaders, Paths Unknown, and Hidden Traps, this one certainly seems the right fit for them.

The second in the box is called Deadly Synergy which is a Mastery-style Rivals deck. This one is really based around keeping your fighters in a united front. Keeping a fighters adjacent allows them to be united until one of them dies. And enemies next them are considered Flanked.

This deck is really geared around supporting each other. Honestly, I could see this one being used for a few other warbands with great effect, too. There’s more cards to each deck as they both come with their own Objectives, Ploys, and Upgrades to work into your strategy.
